If it’s your first time visiting Maui, you probably envision sunshine, tropical temps and the beach. While you’ll find all of these things abundant, there’s probably a lot you don’t know about this gorgeous and fun vacation destination! Check out our Maui condo rentals if you haven’t already booked accommodations, and be ready to enjoy the best time of your life. We’ve included a few tips and suggestions below to help you make the most of your visit.
Rent a car – you’ll be glad you did. There’s so much to see and do on Maui, and even if you intend to relax on the beach the majority of the time you’ll appreciate being able to navigate around the island to experience all of the activities, exploring and culture. Be sure that you either have GPS on your cell phone or rental car!
Bring along a light sweater or jacket. What? But I thought temperatures were warm and tropical in Hawaii! For the most part they are, but if you intend to go to the top of Mount Haleakala you’ll be glad you brought an extra layer along as temps can get really cold in this popular location!
Consider renting a condo even if you think a hotel is beyond your budget. Hotels are costly, and you don’t have the spaciousness and amenities you enjoy with a condo. Besides, cooking a few of your own meals in a well-appointed kitchen can save you a bundle on eating out.
Regardless of whether you’re a “water” person or not, be sure you get out on the water. Maui IS an island, after all and part of the enjoyment is the beautiful water and abundance of activities that make your visit exciting! Whether you do something a little more daring such as snorkeling or SCUBA diving or simply enjoy a dinner & drinks sail at sunset, you really must experience the ocean.
Be sure you have your camera or cell phone everywhere you go. From fabulous rainbows to magnificent waterfalls and unique events, you never know what you’ll come across when vacationing in Maui. If you don’t have a camera with you to capture moments you’ll enjoy decades from now, you’ll regret it.
Go on a road trip. Of course the most well-known is the road to Hana, but if you can’t make this adventurous trip you’ll enjoy the beauty driving the only road that circles West Maui. This road is made of two highways that connect, one that runs along the top (Kahekili Highway) and is one known for danger in terms of its narrowness and huge drop offs, the other the Honoapiilani Hwy that navigates around the lower portion of West Maui. Unlike most cities in the mainland, there aren’t a lot of different routes to reach your destination, which is part of what makes it so fun and adventurous.
Every island in Hawaii is unique, and Maui is a true pleasure to experience. No matter what your plans are once you arrive, be sure to check out our Maui condo rentals for pure relaxation and comfort during your down time!
