Even those who book one of our Maui condo rentals on the West side of Maui often anticipate taking the Road to Hana on the East side of the island! A 64-mile stretch that connects Kahului with Hana, this is a “must-do” for many vacationers visiting the island. So, with all there is to see along this amazing stretch of highway, where are the best places to stop? We have a few suggestions.
Twin Falls is a bio-diverse farm where you can enjoy a dip in the Lower or Upper Falls along with a gorgeous hike and even a tour of the Wailele Farm if you arrive at the right time. From locally grown fruit and sugarcane juice that’s fresh squeezed, you’ll love exploring this family-owned and operated farm.
Wai’anapanapa State Park is another stop you’ll want to make along the Road to Hana, where you’ll find the most spectacular glistening turquoise water and black sand beach you could possibly imagine. Whether you prefer watching the locals cliff jump, hiking, or taking a refreshing dip inside the freshwater cave, you’ll find there is something magical for every member of the family. The views are stunning, so you’ll want to bring your camera along!
Paia Town is where you’ll find everything from yoga studios and art galleries to a variety of restaurants, eclectic shops, and coffee shops that are reminiscent of a different era. For more than 40 years Paia Town has been lovingly considered a “hippie-surfer” town, with a single main road where you can pick up a to-go lunch from Kuau Store or enjoy live music at Charley’s Restaurant & Saloon, a favorite hang-out for hippies, celebrities, adventurers, artists, and people from every walk of life.
Other stops you’ll want to make include the Seven Sacred Pools (‘Ohe’o Gulch), Kahanu Garden, Pi’ilanihale Heiau, and Hamoa Beach, where you’ll experience peaceful relaxation among the lush vegetation and sea cliffs, or boogie boarding if you’ve got the energy. These are just a handful of examples of all there is to do and see along the Road to Hana!
